Della P. Wood is the GRASP advisor at Brunswick High School and Sussex Central High School.
Della is a native of Brunswick County. She is a graduate of Brunswick High School and also a graduate of Saint Paul’s College with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology. After college, Della moved to Northern Virginia where she built a distinguished career in Law Enforcement and Corrections. She served faithfully for 27 years in the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and retired in 2006 as a Deputy Sheriff Captain. During her career, she worked in several positions and in a variety of capacities. Among these positions were fiscal manager and budget officer. She also supervised the education programs for youth and young adults who had not completed high school and those who wanted to participate in continuing education courses while incarcerated. Della returned home after retirement to serve as primary caregiver for her mom. Since retiring, she earned a Master's degree in public policy and administration and is currently working on her Doctorate in the same field with a concentration in Organizational Leadership and Management.
Della is the mother of two sons. The eldest just completed eight years in service to his country in the U.S. Army and the youngest is a 2012 graduate of Brunswick High School. Della is very active in her church choir and works with the senior and youth ministry programs and other community projects. She loves singing, theater, traveling, planting flowers, decorating and outdoor activities while spending time with family and friends.
