Janice Johnson (Miss Jay) has over 30 years of experience serving in the private, non-profit, and public sectors with assignments which included 10 years as Chief Financial Officer for the administration of Head Start and associated state-funded community action programs, Assistant Director of Financial Aid, Financial Aid Counselor, and Executive Director of a local nonprofit. Ms. Johnson is a graduate of Virginia State University and George Washington University with a B.S. in accounting and a minor in Economics. She is a former board chair and returning board member of Crater Community Hospice. Ms Johnson served as a member of “Operation Diamond” for the City of Petersburg (an initiative to encourage positive avenues of endeavor for local youth), which was established by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office. She also served on the Disabilities Services Board of Chesterfield County and the Board of Downtown Churches United located in the Tri-Cities area. Ms. Johnson has enjoyed mentoring many individuals over the years and has been instrumental in assisting many students and young adults to realize their potential and goals through education and community initiatives. She has been extremely passionate and supportive of Be the Match (national bone marrow registry) and the One Sight, an initiative to provide free eyeglasses and exams to area students. She enjoys gardening, all types of music, and reading.
