Shirel Reavis

Shirel Reavis is the GRASP adviser for Sussex - sussex@grasp4va.org

I am a retired educator with 26 years of experience. I have taught grades first through fifth, with fifth grade being the most exciting. After my retirement, I continued to work as a daily and long-term substitute teacher. Retirement allowed me more personal time, so I tutored students after school. I received my AS degree in Business Management from SVCC and my BS degree in Communications from Old Dominion University.  I am the mother of two adult children and the grandmother of eight unique grandchildren.  My desire to become a teacher may have been shaped by the many educators in my family, tracing back to my great-grandmother. who taught in a one room rural schoolhouse. I guess you could say it is in my DNA.  As an educator, my goal was not only to inform and encourage my students but also to inform and encourage their parents.  As a GRASP advisor, I am still able to pursue this goal.
